Weight Loss and Healthy Living Seminar!

Dr James R. Fedich, wellness consultant, of Panther Valley will offer a complimentary seminar on how to eat right and lose weight. Obesity has become an epidemic in this country. As our Nations Health gets worse, so does our economy and lifestyle. A free hour-long seminar on November 25th at 7pm, will reveal inexpensive methods to eat right, be healthy, and lose weight, naturally.

America is one of the richest, most progressive countries in the world. Shouldn't it be one of the healthiest too? Maybe it should, but the sad truth is that Americans are some of the unhealthiest people in the world. Even though we are living in a country with great economic power and technological advancement, we are also living in a country with the smallest fund of practical nutritional knowledge. We are living in a land plagued with obesity. It has been estimated that the annual cost of overweight and obesity in the U.S. is $122.9 billion.

America is home to the most obese people in the world. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), obesity in adults has increased by 60% within the past twenty years and obesity in children has tripled in the past thirty years. A staggering 33% of American adults are obese and obesity-related deaths have climbed to more than 300,000 a year, second only to tobacco-related deaths

Dr. James Fedich of Panther Valley, NJ, has taken a special interest in health, weight loss, and proper nutrition. With economic times as bad as they are today, it can be expensive and difficult to get the advice and support you need for a proper diet and nutrition. To help alleviate the financial burden of nutritional counseling, Dr. Fedich will offer a complimentary hour long talk on Proper Nutrition and Weight loss on Tuesday November 25th at his office, Village Family Chiropractic, in Allamuchy, NJ. The talk will run from 7pm until 8pm.

Please Call to make a reservation at Dr. Fedich Panther Valley office, 908-813-8200, because space is very limited. If the number is busy, please try again later.

Financial Bailout Got You Stressed?

Does the Financial Bailout Have You Stressed And Aching?

Allamuchy, NJ (October 1, 2008). Banks are Failing, Car Companies are taking $25 billion dollar loans; Mortgage Implosion and other tough times have us all stressed out. A recent study finds that al of that stress can take a damaging toll on your body.

A new report done at Stanford University shows that psychological distress may be a better indicator than medical imaging or injections when it comes to predicting who will develop an aching back. “Lower back pain will effect 82% of American adults at one point in their lifetime, stated Dr Fedich, “and is the number one cause of lost work days and workers compensation claims.”

This study demonstrates that patients suffering from psychological distress; economy, mortgage, presidential politics, are three times more likely to develop lower back pain. Anyone that has seen the news the past month is surely under psychological stress that can affect his or her lower back. With today’s troubling economic times, no one can afford to miss work due to an aching back or spinal injuries. Furthermore, the study found that stress was a better indicator for lower back pain than MRI results. (Carragee, et. El. Journal of Spine)

“This study has a tremendous impact for the average American,” explained Dr. Fedich, “It tells us that if your suffering from psychological stress, the chances of you having a serious back problem are largely increased, and this means we can address the problem before it starts.” Finally the long-term link many of us have been talking about for years has been proven without a doubt by a large study of over 1000 patients at a prestigious university.

Back pain can be a chronic debilitating problem if not addressed quickly. Many studies have shown that the faster patients seek care for their back pain, the faster and better their healing will be. This study shows us that even once stress and some tension begins, it’s a good predicator of a more serious problem developing that should be addressed. Good stretching, exercise, proper ergonomics, sleeping habits, and therapy can all be a benefit to an aching back, However, if the problems persists longer than a few days, its time to get some help. The best recipe for relief of stress related back pain would appear to be a combination of patient education, rest, stress reduction, moderate aerobic activity, stretching, nutritional intervention, and chiropractic care.

What They Don't Want You to Know About Auto Accident Injuries

What They Don’t Want You to Know About Auto Accident Injuries

Allamuchy, NJ (September 17, 2008.) Following a car accident you may not have immediate pain, however, there may be underlying and concealed damage to your spinal column, which might not manifest itself as a dangerous impairment of bodily process for months or maybe years. Chiropractic can offer relief of Auto Injury Whiplash or spinal pain relief associated with automobile injuries and will usually be completely covered by your auto insurance.
“Pain following a car accident can take days, weeks, months, or even years to develop,” stated Dr. Fedich, “and sadly, people waiting can limit their coverage and make their pains worse and harder to treat.” Chiropractors are specialists in addressing non-surgical backbone injuries such as whiplash injury and back -spinal injuries from auto accidents.
Whiplash comes about when your head is cast violently backwards creating a (hyperextension) and or a forward-moving (hyper flexion) -injuring the neck. The accidental injury might be worse if your neck might have been bent to the side as the accident occurred. The accidental injury is among the more common auto accident injuries. Those aches and pains you're feeling after your auto accident, injury or fall are a denotation that the backbone has suffered harm, “A recent study by Watts, et. El, revealed that permanent spinal damage can be done during car accidents of speeds below 5 mph.,” explained Dr. James R Fedich, a practicing chiropractic in Allamuchy, NJ.

The consequences of a whiplash trauma might be short-run or long term and can often be accompanied by a concussion. Often whiplash traumas can reach shoulders, arms, and might cause injury to joints, spinal disc, ligaments, nerves and cervical muscles.Insurance companies realize the many advantages of chiropractic care, and chiropractic care is fully covered by automobile insurance policies, no matter who is at fault, and no matter whether you were the driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian. The big secret “they don’t want you to know” is that chiropractic can often cure and relieve whiplash pain, quickly, painlessly, without drugs or surgery, and not everyone wants you to know about that. For further information about whiplash injuries, car accidents, or chiropractic, you can contact Dr Fedich at (908) 813-8200, or email him at drfedich@villagefamilychiro.com.

Manipulation Under Anesthesia

What my chiropractor did to me while I was asleep....

“I felt 75 percent better on the first day… on the second day even better…and on the third day I thought, Hallelujah here I go…”
“The best thing about MUA is that it gives you your life back.”
“I can live a much better life free of pain and I am not constantly taking pain pills.”
“So I tried the MJA and today I can’t believe it…it’s like I’m getting ready to go in the service again . . . I feel great.”
What is MUA?
These chronic pain sufferers and thousands like them across the nation have one thing in common- they’ve discovered the tremendous health benefits that can be restored by the procedure known as Manipulation Under Anesthesia-MUA.
Manipulation Under Anesthesia is exactly what it sounds like. After medical clearance, the patient is lightly anesthetized to achieve total relaxation, then, specialized stretching movements and adjustments which would normally be too painful to even consider are easily and painlessly accomplished. Manipulation Under Joint Anesthesia involves the performance of specialized spinal intervention procedures in addition to the above.
For more and more patients who are not finding relief through conventional treatments and/or invasive procedures, MUA, combined with consistent but simple post-procedure treatment and exercise regimen, can eliminate or greatly reduce pain and restore or markedly improve range of motion. Plus, MUA procedures are cost-effective - thousands of dollars less than traditional surgery and other more invasive treatments - and usually qualify for insurance coverage.
In addition, return-to-work is much faster, allowing MUA patients to get back to work and the pleasures of living much sooner than expected.
IS MUA/MUJA NEW OR EXPERIMENTAL?

MUA is neither new nor experimental. It’s actually been practiced since the late 1930’s and used by osteopathic physicians and orthopedic surgeons for many years as a proven form of treatment.
During the past eight years, interest in MUA has greatly increased thanks to tremendous advances in anesthesiology.
Today, MUA is a multi-disciplinary outpatient procedure that takes place in a controlled hospital or ambulatory surgical setting, usually over the course of one to three days.
Using specialized techniques, supported by the expertise of MDs, RNs, Chiropractors and Anesthesiologists, MUA achieves maximum results for qualified patients.
Countless recent case studies and medical research continue to show that MUA is widely regarded as safe and effective and is gaining acceptance by the medical community at large.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM MUA/MUJA?

MUA can be a valuable procedure for people with chronic neck, back and joint problems - conditions caused by long-term disabilities, accidents, and injuries that have not been responsive to conventional treatment but MUA is not for everybody. Please contact your physician for details. Common, general conditions that MUA could be effective in include:
Degenerative Disc DiseaseHerniated Nucleus PulposusChronic myofascitisNeuromusculoskeletal conditionsFailed Back Surgery SyndromeFibro adhesion buildupMyofascial Pain SyndromeSpinal StenosisOsteoarthritis
Patients who have reached a plateau using conservative care/surgical care/chiropractic care/physical therapy can significantly improve their quality of life using MUA.
WHY DOES MUA/MUJA WORK?
MUA achieves results where other treatments fail because it allows your caregivers to use a sophisticated biomechanical approach for the neuromusculoskeletal system.
“Twilight” sedation allows you to be responsive, but not apprehensive. This also helps to preserve the natural protective reflexes of the body.
Specialized stretching and manipulations are completed gently, and without the patient’s usual pain trained physical or psychological resistance.
Fibrotic adhesions, which limit range of motion and contribute to pain, are altered; muscles are stretched; collagen fibers are remodeled to eliminate or reduce restriction. Pain and discomfort are decreased.
The manual medicine techniques utilized during MUA require less force because of the relaxed state and are more physiologically suitable.
HOW DO I BEGIN AN MUA/MUJA TREATMENT PLAN?

Once proper patients are selected using standards of care as described by the National Academy of MUA Physicians, the typical MUA treatment plan begins with a medical screening process to clear the patient for anesthesia. Medical tests usually will include but are not limited to:
CBCMetabolic PanelChest X-ray and EKGElectrocardiogram Pregnancy test for Female MUA/MUJA patientsOther Necessary Testing
Additional tests, such as MRI/CT and other diagnostic tests as necessary.
After receiving medical clearance, the patient is scheduled at the facility where the MUA will be performed.
WHAT’S THE MUA/MUJA PROCEDURE LIKE?
On the day of the MUA, the patient must be accompanied by a friend or family member to drive the patient home after the procedure. No patient will be allowed to drive following this procedure.
The patient then confers with the anesthesiologist, is gowned and the sedative - usually Diprivan and/or Versed, and sometimes Fentanyl - are administered to achieve the comfortable sleep that makes treatment possible.
MUA begins with specialized stretching and adjustment techniques that are used in the spine segments affected. Specialized interventional procedures are performed as necessary for MUJA.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

After the procedure is completed, the patient is repositioned and awakened, and then taken to the recovery room where he or she is carefully monitored by the O.R, nurse.
Recovery time is generally 10 to 20 minutes. After recovery, the patient receives oral fluids and a light snack. The doctor and anesthesiologist also remain in attendance until the patient is discharged.
To achieve results in most chronic cases, the MUA procedure is repeated. The doctor may adjust only the area of abnormality, plus the adjacent area, the adjacent area only or additional areas depending on the doctor’s assessment of the condition.
Post-procedure care is one of the most import parts of the MUA procedure and makes it truly effective.
The therapy begins immediately after MUA procedure is completed. At this time, the patient visits the office and undergoes a combination of stretching exercises, cryo-therapy and electrical stimulation to eliminate or reduce soreness. The patient then returns home to rest.
Following the last MUA procedure, the patient should follow an intensive therapy program for seven to 10 days. This post MUA therapy should be the same stretches accomplished during the MUA procedure and necessary adjustments made in the doctor’s office.
This is followed by specific rehabilitation for the next two to three weeks including stretching, flexibility and strengthening exercises plus periodic adjustments as required by the doctor.
A regimented program of post-MUA therapy will help the patient regain both pre-injury strength and help prevent future pain and disability.
Training
Manipulation under anesthesia is similar to regular chiropractic manipulation; however, the procedure requires advanced training that must be taken by any doctor who performs the procedure. Chiropractors, Osteopaths, or M.D.s can all perform the procedure if they have taken the certification course, passed two written exams and successfully passed a proctorship involving supervised procedures. The training is intensive and there are a few select doctors who have completed the necessary training.
Research
1. 83 % of patients with EMG verified radiculopathies reported significant improvement – Robert Mensor, M.D.
2. Patients that had back pain for a minimum of 10 years reported an 87% recovery rate after MUA –Ongly et al
3. 51 % of patients with unrelieved symptoms after conservative care had been exhausted reported good to excellent results three years post MUA –Donald Christman, MD
4. 71 % of 723 MUA patients had good results (returned to normal activity relatively symptom free) and flexibility, elasticity and range of motion can be resorted following MUA –Bradford and Siehl
5. 83% of 517 patients treated with MUA responded well. –Paul Kuo, MD Professor of Orthopedic surgery
6. 171 Patients who had constant intractable pain for several months to 18 years. All patients had failed conservative treatment. The study showed that 25% of patients had no pain following MUA, 50% were much improved, and 20% were better and could tolerate the pain. Failures were less than 5 % with little or no pain relief. –Krumhansi and Nowacek
7. 64 % of patients with a herniated disc reported good to excellent results –Merril C. Mensor, MD
8. 96.3% of patient diagnosed with myofibrositis (muscle tissue scarring and adhesions) reported good to excellent results.

Back pain....A pain in your brain???

Chronic Back Pain
By Dr. James R. Fedich, Chiropractic Physician

New research has show that the pain in your back can also be a pain in your brain. Research conducted at Northwestern University has discovered that chronic lower back pain can deteriorate brain function. The study was performed on 42 individuals, half with chronic back pain and half without. The study found that in patients with six months or longer of low back pain they had lost about 1.3 cubic centimeters of brain matter. This much loss of brain matter is equal to the amount lost in ten to twenty years of aging. The study also found that every year a person has chronic low back pain, they lose the same 1.3 cubic centimeters of brain matter. This essentially means that for every one year that you have chronic back pain, your brain ages 10 – 20 years. So, if you have lower back pain for 3 years, which many people have, your brain may have aged 60 years in that time. This is some very significant research. Essentially, that achy low back you have been putting off for years has been slowly destroying your brain. Dr. A. Vania Apkararian who headed the study states that six months or longer of lower back pain is accompanied by abnormal brain chemistry, indicated by chemical changes in the brain that can affect emotional assessments, decision making, and control social behavior. Dr. Apkararian further states, “Chronic pain is a state of continuous persistent perception with associated negative affect and stress.” This research supports what chiropractors have been saying for years. Your body is a highly tuned machine, and when a part of that machinery is not working properly, it disrupts the rest of your system. If you have nerve compression in your low back, and the impulses from your brain are not allowed to travel freely down the nerves, then of course this will affect your brain. Your brain is always monitoring the body, and if it cannot send and receive messages to a part of the body, this interferes with its system. The nervous system is a highly tuned machine, and just like your car it needs a tune up. Research has now confirmed that the achy low back that you have not worried about for years is slowly destroying your brain. Now is as good a time as any to get a check up and make sure that everything is working well. Nobody ever looks back on life and wishes they had taken worse care of their body. Take care of yourself now before you regret it later!

LOSE WEIGHT

A Doctors Unbiased Review....
I have seen and or tried all the major diets, heres my review...
I have tried all the diet products...
As a practicing chiropractor, I have tried every major diet out there, and the ones I havent tried, I have had a patient try. Some have worked, some have not, some are all bologna, some are ok. The major diet plans dont work. In America, there is a new diet book written for each and every person on a diet each and every year. The average dieter in America has an average GAIN of 1 lbs after a diet. Obviosly what were are doing just isnt working! The Atkins diet is too high fat for most of us to be healthy, after all Dr. Atkins died young of heart disease. The south beach diet is ok, but there are lots of rules to follow and most people just dont stick with it. Eat right for your blood type, is just too complicated for most people to follow. Weight watchers is pretty good, but who wants to walk around all day, counting the points to everything they eat? not me! Nutri System...again, good results, but have you seen the portions? NO THANKS!!!. I want to eat more than a mouse sized portion of my meals. So, what does work? i have a 12 percent body fat, I am 6'5: and 214lbs. I have tried them all, good old fashion plans work, here are my favorites.

Here is my website for further information. http://www.chiropractorweightloss.com
